• The letter size change in units of 0.1 LogMAR from one row to the next. The Thomson Paediatric Screening Test Chart displays letters from 0.80 LogMAR (largest) to -0.30 LogMAR (smallest) although this range can be set from the Program Options. LogMAR Scoring simply involves recording the LogMAR size of the smallest letters that can be read.

• Landolt C eye chart (Japanese vision test). Invented by Edmund Landolt, a Swiss ophthalmologist, this chart is similar to the tumbling E chart but uses Landolt’s broken ring symbols in various orientations. It measures high-contrast visual acuity and it’s helpful for illiterate or non-English speakers.

A contrast sensitivity test measures your ability to distinguish between finer and finer increments of light versus dark (contrast). This differs from common visual acuity testing in a routine eye exam, which measures your ability to recognize smaller and smaller letters on a standard eye chart.

• Pelli- Robson Contrast Sensitivity Chart This chart has letters that subtend an angle of 3 degrees at a distance of 1 meter. The chart is printed on both sides; the other side has letter sequences in a different order. The letters are arranged in a series of two triplets in each line. The contrast reduces from one triplet to the next.

he Logmar Chart 2 Revised incorporates a slight change in the difficulty score for each of the ten Sloan letters derived from the best visual acuity examinations of 7420 eyes during the ETDRS study. The original charts difficulty scores were derived from the examination of 234 eyes. In addition to the revised arrangement of letters which resulted in the ultimate homogeneity of difficulty per line, the three charts are balanced so that in each chart the ten letters are represented at least once in every position.
