The B-OCTA 8.00 Pupil Expander (a version of the B-HEX device) is a sterile, single-use, flexible surgical device used in ophthalmology to mechanically dilate the pupil during procedures like cataract surgery and vitrectomy, especially when the pupil is small or non-dilating.

Key Features and Specifications:
  • Expanded Pupil Size: The B-OCTA 8.00 is designed to provide an extra-large (XL) expanded pupil, wider than the standard B-HEX which provides a 5.5 mm expanded pupil. The "8.00" in its name likely refers to its ability to achieve a larger expansion for a wider surgical view.
  • Design: It features a unique, uniplanar (single plane), flexible design with notches and flanges that are tucked under the iris margin to hold the pupil open in an expanded hexagonal shape. The B-OCTA has more pairs of notches than the original B-HEX to allow for better dilation.
  • Material: Made of a flexible plastic material, typically Polyimide or PMMA.
  • Profile: It has a very thin profile (around 75 to 125 microns or 0.075 - 0.125 mm), which allows it to be inserted through small incisions (1 mm or larger) and minimizes obstruction of surgical instruments.
  • Insertion/Removal: It is typically preloaded in a transparent carrier and inserted/removed using a specific 23-gauge micro-forceps or a manipulator, rather than an injector.
  • Usage: It is particularly useful for cases involving non-dilating pupils, intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS), manual small incision cataract surgery (MSICS), phacoemulsification (PHACO), and combined phacovitrectomy procedures.
  • Sterility/Reuse: It is a sterile, single-use disposable device. Re-use or re-sterilization is not recommended as it can alter the material properties and performance

Minimum order quantity: 5 Box

The b-hex® pupil expander 2.0 is a newer version of a surgical device used to mechanically expand a small pupil during eye surgery, such as cataract or vitreoretinal surgery. It is designed to be stronger and more rigid than the original b-hex, making it suitable for patients with rigid pupils, while the original version is better for flexible pupils. The b-hex 2.0 is inserted and removed with micro-forceps through a small incision, providing a controlled expansion without needing an injector.

Key features of b-hex® 2.0
  • Increased strength: Designed to be "big and strong," making it better for eyes with rigid pupils.
  • Ease of use: The insertion and removal techniques are the same as the original b-hex, using micro-forceps through a small incision.
  • Controlled expansion: Allows the surgeon to manually expand the pupil by engaging the device's notches with forceps, offering more control than injector-based devices.
  • Flexibility: Despite its strength, it is still flexible and gentle on the iris, allowing for a round pupil to be left after removal.
  • Low profile: Its thin profile allows for unhindered instrument movement during surgery.
